Social Action

he citizen’s of South Asia are part of a very complex reality of belonging to various religions, race, cultures, philosophies, ethnicities and castes. In India this is more pronounced considering the number of states and union territories. The Jesuits in Social Action, recognizing diversity as a strength, have brought together 100 civil society organisations – 50 Jesuits CSOs and 50 religious, church and non-church based CSOs – across 16 states to develop leadership through a “Citizen’s Forum“ based on a common and accepted program of entitlements. India has a host of laws and policies ensuring rights to its citizens. LOKMANCH is based on three such laws and policies to ensure the entitlements of the most deprived and marginalised communities, namely the Dalits and tribals. The three are National Food Security Act, Schedule Caste Sub Plan and Schedule Tribe Sub Plan and Water Sanitation and Hygiene popularly known at WASH. The program will create 5520 leaders who will promote a CITIZEN’S FORUM.
