Dr. (Fr.) Siji Varghese, SJ is the Director of the Jesuit Conference of India-Assistancy Development Office and also the coordinator of the Development offices in JCI/ South Asia. He is committed to promoting appropriate strategies for networking, Convergence, resource mobilization, and advocacy to scale up the Jesuit initiatives in South Asia, which can lead to faster social transformation with justice & equity.
He has several years of experience in livelihood programmes, innovative, inclusive, quality education, disaster management, strategic planning, child rights issues and projects management. A trainer in strategic planning and eco-spirituality, he has authored books and articles on eco-spirituality, disaster management, development, and sustainability. He is part of Tarumitra, an organization with consultative status from the UN and promotes ecological awareness among students and youth. He is working on the three pillars of the Jesuit Conference of India, namely SANKALP- imparting quality and inclusive education to marginalized children, JesuiTec- a Jesuit network of many technical education Institutes imparting skill training to youth and ensures employability and the ecological movement of Jesuits in South Asia a core group member. He hails from the South Indian state of Kerala, holds a master’s degree in social work with a specialization in Children and disadvantaged from Loyola College, Chennai, India and is a rank holder. He had done his Ph.D. in Disaster Management from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
